10 of my favourite things from Solo Mum Society - Bali 2024
This week I launched the 2025 Solo Mum Society group holiday to Bali, staying at the beautiful 5-star Sofitel in Nusa Dua. While the memories of 2024's trip are still slightly fresh, I thought I'd share 10 of my favourite things:
1 - The beautiful vibe!
A lot of the 24 mums who came on the trip didn't know each other beforehand and had only possibly connected via Zoom calls or social media, but it felt like as soon as you met anyone from the group, you were instantly friends. There was a beautiful shared respect and such a kind atmosphere. I felt like the fact we had all been through some sort of journey to become mums on our own, we were all very empathetic, welcoming and non-judgemental. It was a really special vibe to be part of.
2 - The breakfast buffet
It was amazing! So much variety, a whole room of pastries, eggs cooked however you wanted, fresh smoothies and juices and as long as you packed some entertainment for your child, then a very lazy and relaxing start to your day. Top tip - bring a lunchbox to stock up on snacks for later on!
3 - The swim-up bar
I don't drink alcohol, but most afternoons around 4 many of the mums and kids gathered at the swim-up bar for a cocktail, mocktail or coconut. It was so much fun and a great way to bond with some of the other mums.
4 - Kids Club
My daughter loved it and still talks about it now. It was very well organised. It had a trampoline, and every hour had scheduled activities, so it wasn't just open play. There were also additional activities you could pay for (low cost), such as nail art, kite making, t-shirt decorating and even a cooking course where they all dressed up in tiny chef outfits!
5 - In-room massages
Sally found a fabulous company that came to your room for a massage. It was incredibly relaxing to be in your own space, the massages were amazing and an hour was less than $20 AUD!
6 - Having an adjoining room
We had an adjoining room with another mum and her daughter that we are great friends with prior to the trip. It was fabulous in the mornings that the girls could hang out and play while we caught up as adults with a cup of tea/coffee before starting the day. It also meant that if one of us wanted some downtime or had to pop out for something the other mum could easily look after the girls.
7 - Dinner at the beach
There's a lovely bar/restaurant on the beach where we had dinner a couple of nights. It has live music and cute lanterns and was a great place to catch up with old friends and make some new ones.
8 - The kids pool
I would recommend swim shoes next year as the bottom of the pools were a bit rough, but the kid's pool was a great depth that you didn't actually have to get in with them if they had a swim vest on and knew how to swim. My daughter could dive for her sinkies and it also had a great waterslide.
9 - Seeing all of the kids make friends
Not only did the mums come away with some beautiful new friendships, but it was so special to see the children making new friendships as well. Seeing them play together in the pool, building nests to protect their imaginary birds (ie rocks they collected) over dinner and even playing hopscotch together. It was so lovely to watch and also to know how much this is going to help them later in life to know there are lots of other families that look like theirs.
10 - The bath service
2 days in, we learned about the bath service, where a beautiful Balinese woman will come to your room and run a bubble bath for you, complete with rose petals! My 4-year-old daughter and I had a bath together most nights, and it was a beautiful way to reconnect after a fun-filled day. She could tell me all about kid's club, and it was so relaxing she was usually asleep pretty soon afterwards.
There were so many other wonderful things, and it was one of the best holidays my daughter and I have had. I think 2025 will be even bigger, and I am looking forward to making more new friends and creating more special memories for everyone x
